Newswatch, OJAF hold lecture in honour of Yakubu Mohammed

The Newswatch family and Olori Janet Afolabi Foundation (OJAF) have announced the Newswatch 5 Lecture Series and Tribute Session in honour of the late former Deputy Chief Executive of Newswatch, Yakubu Mohammed.

The event, in honour of the prolific write, is scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

The organisers said the lecture and tribute session, which will commence at 11am, is to celebrate the life and legacy of Mohammed, a respected figure in Nigerian journalism and one of the pioneering names in investigative reporting.

Mohammed died on January 14, 2026 at the age of 75.

He was widely known for his role in the founding of Newswatch magazine in 1984 alongside Dele Giwa, Ray Ekpu, and Dan Agbese.

As Deputy Chief Executive of Newswatch, he played a major role in shaping the publication’s editorial direction and strengthening investigative journalism in Nigeria.

The upcoming lecture series is expected to bring together media professionals, family members, friends, and admirers to reflect on his contribution to journalism and national development.

The tribute session will also serve as a moment to honour his impact on younger generations of journalists and the media industry at large.
