2027: AAC announces date for presidential primary

The African Action Congress (AAC) has officially scheduled May 26, 2026 for its presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general election.

This was contained in an official notice released by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Rex Elanu, over the weekend.

According to the notice, the presidential primary election will hold at 9am at the National Centre for Women Development, Central Business District, Abuja.

AAC, which has consistently projected itself as a people-oriented political movement, said the exercise reflects its commitment to democratic participation, transparency, and grassroots-driven leadership.

The notice also reaffirmed the party’s ideological stance captured in its slogan: “Taking Back Nigeria through People-Powered Actions,” while encouraging members, delegates, and supporters across the country to actively participate in the process.

Party faithful, stakeholders, and accredited delegates are expected to converge on Abuja for the exercise, which is anticipated to shape the AAC’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

Recall that the party had outlined a timeline for its primary election process, stating that the submission of Expressions of Interest and purchase of nomination forms would run from April 7 to 24, 2026.

Screening, review, and political education for aspirants were scheduled for April 25 to May 16, while party primaries are to be held between May 20 and 26.

Appeals arising from the primaries are expected to be concluded between May 27 and May 28.

The AAC also announced measures aimed at promoting inclusivity in the political process.

It said persons with disabilities would obtain nomination forms free of charge, while female aspirants would enjoy a 50 percent waiver on nomination fees.

The party maintained that the initiative underscores its commitment to empowering historically marginalised groups and lowering barriers to political participation.

Details released by the party showed that presidential aspirants are required to pay ₦100,000 for the Expression of Interest form and ₦2 million for the nomination form.

Governorship and senatorial aspirants are to pay ₦100,000 for Expression of Interest and ₦1 million for nomination forms, respectively.

For the House of Representatives, the fees are set at ₦100,000 and ₦500,000, while State Assembly aspirants are to pay ₦50,000 and ₦200,000.

Chairmanship aspirants will pay ₦20,000 and ₦100,000, while councillorship forms cost ₦10,000 and ₦50,000 respectively.
