IBADAN— GOVERNOR Seyi Makinde, yesterday, assured that that his administration was making serious efforts to secure the release of the kidnapped teachers and students and are reunited with their family members.

He gave this assurance while receiving the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, alongside other Muslim faithful at his private residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan, during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Recall that scores of teachers and students were abducted in Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

In his remarks, Governor Makinde said: “The challenges that we have, especially in Oyo with our school children being kidnapped, we are working round the clock to ensure that the children are reunited with their families.
“So, I also use this opportunity to say to those that are in despair right now, that God Almighty will meet them at their point of need.”

He expressed sympathy with families affected by the incident and prayed for divine intervention for those going through difficult moments.

He said Oyo remained a liberal and tolerant state where religion and ethnicity could not easily be used as tools of division, urging residents to place the interest of the state and the country above political sentiments.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State government said it has concluded plans to strengthen security around schools across the state as part of measures to protect students and educational institutions from emerging security threats.

Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this at his Iperu residence while hosting the League of Imams and Alfas in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.

The governor said the initiative became necessary in response to recent security developments in neighbouring states, stressing that the administration was determined to proactively safeguard schools and secure the future of children in Ogun State.

According to him, the government would deploy a combination of formal security agencies and local security outfits, including the So-Safe Corps, Amotekun Corps, hunters and vigilante groups, to provide adequate protection for schools across the state.

Abiodun said: “We have decided to engage the services of our security agencies, including the So-Safe Corps, Amotekun Corps, hunters and other vigilante groups, to provide security in our schools. We need to do this to protect the lives of our future generation.

“We will mobilise the Amotekun Corps, the So-Safe Corps and all vigilante groups for the protection of schools across the length and breadth of the state. We will also provide stipends to encourage and support this initiative, and implementation will commence immediately.

“We must ensure that we put this kind of structure in place to guarantee the protection of our future generation currently being nurtured in various schools.”
