Abdulrahman Leme turbaned as Madakin Mambila in colourful ceremony

Abdulrahman Usman Leme has been formally turbaned as the Madakin Mambila, a prestigious traditional title conferred by the Chief of Mambila and Chairman of the Sardauna Traditional Council, His Majesty Dr. Shehu Audu Baju II, during a colourful ceremony held in Gembu, the headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The event attracted traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders, political figures, friends and well-wishers from within and outside the state, who gathered to celebrate the honour bestowed on Mr Leme in recognition of his contributions to public service and community development.

Speaking during the ceremony, the royal father described the conferment as a recognition of Leme’s commitment to service, leadership, and dedication to the advancement of society.

The title of Madaki, regarded as one of the prominent traditional titles within the emirate system, is traditionally reserved for individuals who have distinguished themselves through integrity, courage, and service to their people.

Mr Leme, who currently serves as an Administrative Assistant to the National Security Adviser, was praised for his role in national development and his contributions across both the public and private sectors. Before joining ONSA, he worked on development and peacebuilding initiatives, including programmes focused on youth empowerment and education.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Leme expressed gratitude to the traditional council for finding him worthy of the honour. He pledged to uphold the values associated with the title and to continue contributing to the development of his people.

“This honour is not only a recognition of past efforts but also a call to greater responsibility and service to our people,” he said.

The ceremony featured traditional performances, cultural displays, royal processions, and goodwill messages from dignitaries, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Mambila people.

The turbaning was one of the major highlights of the eid celebrations in the Mambila Plateau, drawing visitors from different parts of the country to the scenic highland community.

Mr Leme’s recognition followed a decision of the Sardauna Traditional Council to honour him for his longstanding service, leadership qualities, and commitment to the welfare of the people.

With the conferment of the title, Mr Leme joins the ranks of distinguished titleholders entrusted with promoting peace, preserving cultural values, and advancing the interests of the Mambila people.
