ADUSTECH cancels students’ excursion to Niger over security concerns

The management of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH) has cancelled a planned students’ excursion to New Bussa in Niger State following security concerns raised by parents and stakeholders.

The university said the decision was taken by the Vice-Chancellor, Musa Tukur Yakasai, after reviewing reports on the security situation in the area where Level 400 Fisheries students were expected to undertake their mandatory field exercise.

A statement issued by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Affairs, Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, said, “When the idea of going to New Bussa came up, the Vice Chancellor, who was already aware of the security situation, had long rejected the trip.”

The university added that the Department of Fisheries was directed to find a safer alternative.

“The students are now going to Tiga Dam in Kano for the mandatory exercise,” the statement added.

The management stressed that students’ safety remains a top priority.

“The university never jokes with students’ safety and welfare, both within and outside the campus,” Abdullahi said.

“There is no plan to take our students to New Bussa or any other unsecured area,” he said.

The clarification followed concerns raised by parents over the proposed trip to Niger State.
