APC to conduct presidential primaries across 8,809 wards nationwide
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that its presidential primary election for the 2027 general election will be held simultaneously across the country’s 8,809 wards on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The exercise marks a shift from the party’s traditional delegate-based system, as all registered APC members at ward level will now be eligible to vote for their preferred presidential aspirant.
According to a notice signed by Ajibola Basiru, the APC national secretary, he said results from each ward will be collated at the local government level before being transmitted to state collation centres and later to the presidential primary election committee in Abuja.
The party said the nationwide exercise would involve extensive mobilisation of party structures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
To oversee the process, the APC constituted a seven-member presidential primary election committee headed by Anyim Pius Anyim, former Senate President.
Other members of the committee include Ken Nnamani, former senate president, Victor Udo Udoma, Grace Titi Laoye-Ponle, Jolly Nyame and Idris Wada, while Sanusi Musa will serve as secretary.
The party also inaugurated a presidential primary election appeal committee chaired by Aminu Masari, former Katsina state governor.
In preparation for the primaries, the APC deployed 37 coordinators and collation officers across the states and the FCT.
Among those appointed are Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara state, Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo state and Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker of the house of representatives.
Others include deputy speaker Benjamin Kalu for Abia State and former senator Phillip Aduda for the FCT.
The primary is widely seen as a major step towards the emergence of the APC’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
