Coalition Of Lagos Indigenous Groups Endorse Pres. Tinubu For 2nd Term

A coalition of Lagos indigenous groups drawn from the five divisions of Lagos State has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The groups, which gathered in their thousands at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, said their support was based on the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, which they claimed were already placing Nigeria on the path of economic recovery and national renewal.

The event attracted prominent traditional rulers, political leaders, and dignitaries, including the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, alongside over 10 White Cap Chiefs, religious leaders, and political stakeholders from across the state.

In his welcome address, renowned Lagosian and convener of the gathering, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, described the event as a historic moment for Lagos indigenes to rally behind one of their own who has risen to Nigeria’s highest office.

According to him, the gathering represented a continuation of efforts to encourage greater participation of Lagos indigenes in governance and politics.

“Today is more than a political gathering; it is a celebration of history, destiny, leadership, and the collective progress of Lagos State indigenes,” Onitiri said.

He noted that for the first time in Nigeria’s history, a Lagos indigene occupies the office of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, while another Lagos indigene heads a key arm of government, describing the development as a source of pride for the state.

Onitiri urged indigenous communities across the five IBILE divisions — Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe — to remain united and work collectively toward protecting their political and cultural interests.

He praised President Tinubu’s decades of political struggle, leadership, and contributions to nation-building, calling on Lagosians to support the continuation of the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

“At the end of this ceremony, let us return to our communities and galvanise our people to participate actively in governance and come out massively to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

The convener also stressed the need for stronger unity among Lagos indigenes beyond politics, saying collaboration among the five divisions was essential for preserving their heritage and securing a better future for coming generations.

Among dignitaries present at the event were; Dr. Arc Lanre Towry Coker, Princess Adefulire Orelope, Dr. Remi Desalu, Sir Shina Thorpe, Hon. Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, Hon. Jimmy Benson, Hon. Dr. Samuel Ajose, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Mr. Kola James, Hon. Alhaji Maiyegun, Alhaji Olagbaiye, and Hon. Adediran Jandor, alongside several local government chairmen and traditional rulers from across Lagos State.
