‘Killing Kogi pastoralists’ families barbaric, unacceptable’ – Miyetti Allah

By Boluwaji Obahopo, Lokoja
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has condemned the killing of several pastoralists in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable.
In a statement issued by the State Secretary of the association, Suleiman Muhammed, and made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Monday, Miyetti Allah said the victims included men, women, and children who were allegedly attacked and killed in the area under circumstances yet to be fully disclosed.
The association identified the deceased as Isiaka Lawal, Larai Musa, Abdullahi Isiaka, Isah Isiaka, Saleh Isiaka, Samsiya Adamu, Asma’u Siuni, Basullube Musa, and Bello Musa.
It also disclosed that Husseini Haruna, Abdullahi Abdullahi, and Sa’ida Haruna sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack and are currently receiving treatment.
MACBAN expressed outrage over the incident and called on security agencies to immediately investigate the killings, apprehend those responsible, and ensure justice for the victims and their families.
According to the association, “The continued targeting of innocent pastoral communities poses a serious threat to peaceful coexistence and could worsen tensions among residents if urgent measures are not taken.
“We condemn this barbaric act in the strongest terms and call on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident, arrest the perpetrators and ensure that justice is served,” the statement read.
Miyetti Allah further appealed to the Federal Government, Kogi State Government, humanitarian organisations, and other relevant authorities to provide urgent relief materials and medical assistance to the affected families.
While mourning those killed, MACBAN urged members of the pastoralist community and residents of the area to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing the need to allow security agencies carry out proper investigations.
The association maintained that the sanctity of human life must be protected at all times irrespective of ethnic background, religion, or occupation, adding that every Nigerian deserves equal protection under the law.
