Court adjourns Sokoto ADC leadership dispute to June 4
The Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto has adjourned the hearing of a suit over the leadership crisis in the Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to June 4, 2026.
Presiding judge, Justice Ahmad Gama Mahmud, adjourned the case on Tuesday to allow all parties adequate time to respond to pending court processes and ensure proper service of legal documents.
The judge said the decision was also influenced by the forthcoming Sallah celebrations, adding that the adjournment was in the interest of fair hearing and justice.
During the proceedings, counsel to the 2nd and 3rd defendants, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim, SAN, urged the court to grant an adjournment, noting that some parties had not been properly served with relevant processes.
He also informed the court that additional filings had been made, including a motion challenging an earlier ex-parte order granted on May 8, 2026.
Lead counsel for the plaintiffs, Barr. Matthew Burkaa, SAN, initially opposed the request but later agreed that the defendants should be given time to respond to all pending applications.
Other defence counsel aligned with the submissions seeking adjournment.
After hearing arguments from all parties, the court fixed June 4, 2026, for continuation of hearing.
The suit is part of an ongoing legal battle over the leadership structure of the ADC in Sokoto State.
It would be recalled that the court had earlier adjourned the matter from May 8 to May 19, 2026, before the latest postponement.
