Dangote unveils 10,000-hectare deep seaport project in Ogun

Dangote Industries Limited has begun early-stage work on a proposed 10,000-hectare deep seaport project in the Olokola free trade zone, Ogun state, as part of efforts to strengthen its logistics and export operations.

The planned seaport, which stretches across parts of Ogun Waterside LGA and extends toward Ilaje in Ondo state, is expected to play a major role in Nigeria’s maritime trade and industrial expansion. The company said the initiative aligns with its Vision 2030 strategy aimed at transforming the group into a globally competitive industrial powerhouse.

According to the company, the port is expected to ease pressure on existing seaports while boosting import and export activities across the region.

It is also projected to create jobs, stimulate economic activities in host communities, and improve Nigeria’s position in regional and international trade.

Speaking during stakeholder engagements in Ogun and Ondo states, the managing director for infrastructure and logistics at Dangote Industries, Captain Jamil Abubakar, described the project as a major economic gateway that would support industrial growth and long-term development.

He explained that the proposed facility is being designed to serve as a strategic logistics hub capable of supporting exports, imports, and wider supply chain operations across Africa.

The company disclosed that the seaport would handle the export of fertilisers, petrochemical products, and refined petroleum products. It is also expected to support future liquefied natural gas exports and the importation of heavy industrial machinery.

As part of the preliminary process, officials of Dangote Industries, alongside surveyors and environmental consultants, visited several communities expected to host the project. The delegation met with traditional rulers and local stakeholders in Ode-Omi, Araromi Seaside Kingdom, and Igbokoda to discuss the development plans.

The Lenuwa of Ode-Omi, Oba Folailu Adekunle Hassan, reportedly welcomed the initiative and approved the commencement of surveys and household enumeration in the area. Similarly, the Alara of Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, pledged support for the project.

The delegation also visited the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda, where military authorities expressed support for the proposed seaport development.

The latest move adds to Dangote group’s ongoing expansion drive across key sectors of the Nigerian economy, including refining, infrastructure, energy, and logistics.
