Dogara to Tinubu: History will judge your leadership by performance

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has charged President Tinubu to fulfill the mandate faithfully, stressing that history would judge the administration by how well it delivers on the expectations of the people following his victory at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election.

Dogara urged Tinubu to justify the confidence reposed in him by Nigerians and to carry the mandate with integrity and purpose.

He said nearly eleven million Nigerians had entrusted the President with their hopes and aspirations, describing it as a responsibility of historic proportions.

Congratulating the President on behalf of Bauchi State and in his capacity as a member of the committee, Dogara described the victory as “extraordinary, historic and thoroughly deserved.”

According to a statement issued in Abuja, Dogara, who served as the Bauchi State Coordinator and Collation Officer during the exercise and was also a member of the national Presidential Primary Election Committee, said the outcome represented not only a personal triumph for Tinubu but also a victory for grassroots democracy.

According to the final results announced after the exercise, Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, while his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, polled 15,503 votes.

Dogara said the margin reflected the confidence and trust reposed in Tinubu by millions of APC members nationwide.
He noted that the outcome was more than a mere electoral statistic, describing it as a strong affirmation of leadership by party faithful across the country.

Dogara said the committee was entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the integrity of the process and expressed satisfaction that the assignment was carried out faithfully.

He further highlighted Tinubu’s decision to participate in direct primaries in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which abolished delegate voting and expanded participation to millions of party members at the grassroots level.

According to him, despite the advantages of incumbency, Tinubu chose to subject himself to the democratic process, a move he described as a demonstration of humility, courage and commitment to democratic ideals.

Dogara added that Tinubu not only signed the law but also championed the reforms before willingly participating in the same process, which he said underscored the President’s dedication to strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
