The Nigerian Naira held its ground against the British Pound Sterling across the various segments of the foreign exchange market on Wednesday morning, maintaining a pattern of steady, low-volatility trading.

Official data from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) showed the Naira trading at an official rate of 1,846.90 Naira per Pound. This level reflects minimal fluctuation from Tuesday’s closing aggregate of 1,846.94 Naira, signaling that the central bank’s liquidity management strategies are keeping the local currency resilient against major European soft currencies.

In the parallel market, currency dealers in major commercial centers like Lagos, Kano, and Abuja reported similar stability. The British Pound is currently being bought from customers at an average of 1,895 Naira and sold at a retail rate ranging between 1,910 Naira and 1,915 Naira. The relatively narrow gap between the official and parallel market rates continues to indicate balanced demand and a lack of speculative panic among local buyers.

Currency analysts note that the steady inflows of foreign remittances, combined with measured corporate demand for the British currency ahead of mid-year settlements, have helped the Naira sustain its current valuation band without severe undercurrents of pressure.
