Ekiti 2026: Eight govs, NASS leaders head APC campaign council

A total of eight governors led by the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, have been appointed into the All Progressives Congress National Campaign Council for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election.

Sani was appointed chairman of the council, while the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, will serve as vice chairman.

The National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the statement, the council comprises top party leaders, governors, ministers, federal lawmakers and other key political stakeholders across the country.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed the governorship election for June 20, 2026.

Other prominent members of the council include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; governors Hope Uzodimma, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Babagana Zulum, Dapo Abiodun, Ahmed Aliyu, Mohammed Bago and Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Former governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and Yahaya Bello (Kogi), alongside ministers Dele Alake, Sunday Dare and Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, were also listed as members of the campaign council.

The party also announced the constitution of strategic sub-committees on Election Planning and Management, Finance and Resource Mobilisation, Media and Publicity, Security, as well as Women and Youth Mobilisation to coordinate campaign activities ahead of the election.

The APC stated that the composition of the council reflected the importance the party attached to the Ekiti governorship election.

“The party remains confident in the leadership capacity, political experience and mobilisation strength of the chairman and members of the council to deliver victory for the APC in the forthcoming governorship election,” the statement added.

The Ekiti governorship election is expected to be keenly contested, with political parties intensifying consultations and mobilisation across the state ahead of the poll.

The APC is seeking to retain control of the state after years of dominance in Ekiti politics. The election is also expected to serve as a major test for political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
