Fintiri wins APC Adamawa North senatorial primary unopposed

The outgoing Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, on Monday was declared the winner of the Adamawa North senatorial primaries on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Fintiri was unopposed in the contest as the incumbent senator, Amos Yohanna, declined to contest for a second term.

Also declared winner was Fintiri’s Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, who emerged victorious in the Adamawa South senatorial zone.

Tangwami defeated former senator Grace Bent and retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Numan.

Speaking on the suspension of the Adamawa Central senatorial primaries, the APC spokesman in the state, Victor Dogo, told The PidomNigeria that it was due to the late arrival of electoral materials.

“The electoral materials did not arrive on time in some parts of the senatorial zone, so we felt it was not proper to conduct elections in some of the local government areas and leave others out of the contest. A date will soon be fixed for the primaries in the Central Senatorial Zone,” he said.

Commenting on the suspension, an aspirant in the Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, Alhaji Aliyu Abbati, said the decision was in the best interest of the party.

“I feel the party leadership is working in the interest of our great party. It gives all of us the opportunity to campaign again and reach out to areas we could not reach before, so I commend our leaders for that decision,” he said.

An APC senatorial aspirant, Peter Fwa, from the southern zone, last week withdrew from the contest and dumped the party on the grounds of alleged imposition of a candidate ahead of the primaries.
