How faith, perseverance earned me CP rank — Chinonyerem

Commissioner of Police, CP Favour Chinonyerem, has attributed her rise in the Nigerian Police Force to faith in God, perseverance, and steadfastness in the face of challenges.

Chinonyerem spoke during a special thanksgiving service held at the Police College by her church, Assemblies of God International Worship Centre, GRA Ikeja.

Speaking before the congregation, the senior officer said God remains faithful at all times.

The police commissioner stressed that promotion and success ultimately come from God and not from human influence.

“Promotion does not come from man. Promotion comes from God. That is why the Word of God says we should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and every other thing shall be added unto us,” she said.

Chinonyerem recalled that after graduating from Bible school in 1999, God revealed several things concerning her future, many of which, she said, had now come to pass.

“Once my heart was fixed on God, I knew that whatever He had promised me, He would surely fulfil it. Many ministers, both young and old, spoke into my life and confirmed what God had already told me. God does not fail. He is too faithful to fail,” she said.

She further expressed gratitude for God’s faithfulness in her family life and career, noting that she remained thankful to God.

“Today, we are rejoicing because what God promised, He has fulfilled. God has liberated us. Many of the people you see around me today joined in celebrating because this is not just my victory, it is our collective victory,” she said.

Speaking on the significance of her elevation, Chinonyerem said several long-standing barriers were broken.

“The Nigerian Police Band shall continue to wax stronger and better.”

According to her, the church adopted “Breaking Barriers” as its theme for the year, and she declared that every obstacle on her path had been removed.

“Many people never expected it to happen, but in the first quarter of the year, God fulfilled it. God broke all the barriers, and today we are celebrating victory,” she added.

In his remarks, her husband, Pastor Evangelist Prince Obed Chinonyerem, described the promotion as evidence of God’s mercy and urged people to avoid bitterness and hostility toward others.

“In this year of breaking barriers, Jesus the Barrier Breaker has removed every protocol and every obstacle to grant us victory in the name of Jesus Christ,” he said.

He noted that many people were aware of the battles fought before the elevation eventually came through.

“But at the end of the day, it is not by power, it is not by might, but by the mercy of God,” he added.

Prince Obed advised congregants to maintain integrity and avoid working against others.

“Keep your hands clean. Do not work against anybody. Stop fighting people, stop speaking against people, and stop plotting evil against others. Everybody has their own journey in life, and God is the one who lifts people up,” he said.

He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police and the entire Nigerian Police Force for their support. He recalled how delighted he was to decorate his wife during the official ceremony marking her elevation to Commissioner of Police, describing it as a memorable moment.

Describing his wife as a committed pastor’s wife and a dedicated police officer, he prayed for greater accomplishments in her career.

Earlier in his sermon, the preacher admonished congregants to emulate biblical figures such as Job and Joseph, who remained steadfast despite trials and temptations.

The preacher noted that although Job faced severe tribulations, he never abandoned his faith in God.

Special appreciation was also extended to Prince Obed Chinonyerem for his continuous and unwavering support for his wife’s career.

The service was attended by notable personalities, including the Lagos District Superintendent, Rev. U.G. Ukasoanya, and members of his presbytery, Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, state band masters, and several other senior and junior police officers, as well as congregants and guests.

It was indeed a joyful moment in the presence of God Almighty.
