Idahosa declares “No opposition in Edo” as Aghedo clinches Ovia S’West APC Assembly ticket
The Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has declared that there is “no opposition in Edo State” following the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Ovia South West Constituency ahead of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) poll, where Hon. Sunday Aghedo emerged victorious.
Aghedo, the incumbent lawmaker, secured a total of 7,372 votes in the primary conducted on Wednesday at the Iguobazuwa Town Hall collation centre.
The Returning Officer for the exercise, Mr Frank Adegbudo, announced that out of 10,044 registered members, 7,719 were accredited to participate in the election.
He said other contestants recorded 86 votes for Mr Oyomire Kenneth Idahosa and 261 votes for Mr Adesotu Kelvin, while Aghedo recorded a decisive lead with 7,372 votes.
Declaring the outcome, Adegbudo described the exercise as orderly and transparent.
Reacting to the result, Idahosa commended party members in Ovia South West for turning out in large numbers to choose their candidate, stressing that the state was politically united under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
“There is no opposition in Edo State with Governor Monday Okpebholo working across the three senatorial districts,” he said.
He added that the APC was already consolidating ahead of the general elections, expressing confidence in what he described as a “complete victory” at the polls.
Aghedo, in his acceptance remarks, thanked Governor Okpebholo, the deputy governor and the people of Ovia South West for their support, describing the process as peaceful and credible. He also extended an olive branch to his co-contestants.
The APC Women Leader in the area, Mrs Adesuwa Ajari, also said residents expressed satisfaction with the outcome, noting that the process reflected the choice of the people.
