Kwara stakeholders petition APC national chairman over unauthorized primary result
—As party chairman faces vote of no confidence
By Johnbosco Agbakwuru
ABUJAâThe All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders in Ekiti Local Government Area, Kwara State, have passed a vote of no confidence in local chairman Mr. James Ajibola for the alleged “unauthorized” release of Federal House of Representatives primary results â an act the party elders described as a direct challenge to national authority and party procedures.
This is as a broad coalition of the APC elders and stakeholders in the local government has formally petitioned the partyâs national leadership, demanding urgent disciplinary action against Mr. Ajibola and members of his executive team for allegedly publicizing primary results in defiance of explicit instructions from the national body.
In the petition to the APC national chairman signed by Alhaji Olaiya Mohammed Bello and Chief JB Ayeni, on behalf of the Ekiti Elders and Stakeholders Forum, Ekiti Local Government Area, they said: âOur partyâs rules are not suggestions; they are the backbone of our unity.
âWhen local leaders act like they are above the party, they replace democratic process with personal ambition. We will not allow that.â
The petitioners accused Ajibola and associates of willful breach of party discipline by releasing election outcomes before the official announcement by federally mandated organs.
They said the premature revelation has sown confusion among party faithful, fractured local alliances, and risked tarnishing the APCâs image across the state.
The elders warned that the incident threatens internal democracy and called for tough sanctions. âThis is not merely a procedural lapse â it is an assault on the integrity of the APC. Those responsible must be made to answer,â they said. âSuspension or expulsion should be on the table where guilt is proven.â
According to the petitioners, the unauthorized disclosure undermined the national leadershipâs authority and sets a dangerous precedent if left unchecked.
âAllowing rogue announcements to stand would tell every local organ that party rules are negotiable,â the petition argued. âThat would be the beginning of our undoing.â
The Ekiti group urged the National Working Committee to institute a full inquiry and to mete out sanctions commensurate with any violations discovered.
They insisted that decisive action is necessary both to deter future misconduct and to reassure aggrieved members that due process will prevail.
