Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has bestowed the highest possible praise on Pep Guardiola, declaring the Manchester City head coach the greatest manager the sport has ever seen.
Enrique made the comments in a recent interview with Movistar Plus, responding to reports that Guardiola will be departing Manchester City at the end of the current season.
Speaking warmly about his fellow Spaniard, Enrique said he finds it hard to accept that Guardiola is moving on, expressing a genuine wish that he would continue coaching at the highest club level for many more years.
Enrique also revealed that during his time as Spain’s national team coach, Guardiola would regularly reach out to him with questions about the role, suggesting that managing a national side has long been an ambition for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.
While Enrique stopped short of predicting where Guardiola might end up next, he acknowledged that a move to coach the Italian national team a role that has been linked to Guardiola in some reports could not be entirely ruled out.
He rounded off his comments by reiterating his deep admiration for Guardiola, describing him not just as a colleague but as a personal inspiration and a benchmark for what football management can be at its very best.
