NDC adopts consensus primaries for all positions in Nasarawa

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress has adopted the consensus mode of primaries for the governorship, national assembly and state assembly elections in Nasarawa State.

Chairman of NDC in the state, Dogo Shammah stated this on Saturday at a One-day North Central Zonal Congress which was held in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

He noted that the reason for the decision to adopt consensus candidates was to avoid any form of rifts within the party, and in order not to affect the chances of the party and its candidates in emerging victorious during the 2027 elections.

“I assure you that in Nasarawa State, the NDC will present credible candidates for all elective positions, from the State Assembly to the Governorship, through a consensus arrangement that prioritises unity and avoids unnecessary friction. The NDC has come not to only participate but to win elections,” he said.

He, therefore called the entire residents across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State and the entire North Central zone to join the party because it stands for justice, equity, and progress.

“Today, we gather in the heart of Nasarawa State with delegates from the six states of the North Central region and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Your presence here is a clear testimony to the growing momentum and unity of purpose within our great party.

“As you are aware, The Nigeria Democratic Congress is a newly registered political party, but we are not new to the aspirations of the Nigerian people.

“We are positioning ourselves as the leading opposition, ahead of the 2027 General Elections, both in Nasarawa State and across the nation. What sets NDC apart is our stable leadership at all levels—leadership that is focused, disciplined, and devoid of crisis,” he added.

He further commended the National Leader of the NDC, Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson for attracting key opposition figures and political heavyweights to the party, who are committed to rescuing the citizens from the maladministration of the current APC-led federal and state governments across the nation.

According to Shammah, the NDC is the only platform with the capacity and commitment to provide real development to the North Central region, tackle insecurity, and reverse the tide of economic backwardness, and proffer solutions to the Nation challenges.

“I urge you to work hard to strengthen the party in your respective states. Nigerians are yearning for credible, people-centered leadership, and that alternative is the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” he emphasised.

On his part, the North Central National Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Barnabas Ejisi, called on Nigerians to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress- led government during the forthcoming general elections.

Ejisi noted that the NDC has come to rescue Nigerians who have been suffocated by the ruling party in order to give them better lives.

He said the defection of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa-Kwankwaso had brought value and dignity to the party.

“Our national leader, Seriake Dickson is not only a leader, but he is also a visionary leader; he saw the future, saw what was about to happen. And the party came in at the right time to deliver Nigerians.

“If you know what Peter Obi and Kwankwaso stand for, and what they did as governors, the records of these two gladiators as governors are unequal.

“Nigerians need people who will serve them but not to exploit them. NDC is about service. This is why our slogan is not power, it is service,” he emphasised.

He further urged party members to show more interest in contesting for elective positions in the state, expressing confidence that with the vision of the party and caliber of leaders, they will emerge victorious during the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, NDC Chairman of Plateau State, Solomon Ndam, who spoke on behalf of the north central chairmen, commended the zone for choosing to support the party.

He said the crowd at the congress was an indication that the people of the North Central have embraced the NDC family.

“This is an indication that North Central have rejected the broom; this is also an indication that North Central have rejected the umbrella.

“The presence of NDC in North Central, means that the storm of hunger, the storm of insecurity in North Central is over by the grace of God.

“The storm of unemployment in North Central is over by the grace of God. But we can only overcome this storm if we all mobilise to vote for the NDC across board, from bottom to top,” Ndam emphasised.
