Nigerien arrested in Bauchi over alleged theft of rams

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 58-year-old Nigerien national, Sayyadi Abubakar, over his alleged involvement in the theft of rams in Bauchi metropolis.

The suspect, said to be from Tahoua Town in Maradi State, Niger Republic, was arrested on May 19, 2026, after police operatives intercepted two vehicles along Gubi Road in Bauchi.

According to the command, the vehicles intercepted were a white Hummer bus with registration number Delta WW-882 ZR and a dark ash Toyota Camry bearing Bauchi NNG-293-AA, both allegedly used to convey the stolen animals.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly conspired with one Alaji Ibrahim and four other accomplices, who are currently at large, to steal the rams from an area opposite A.A. Kunya Filling Station along Murtala Mohammed Way in Bauchi.

The command further disclosed that the criminal syndicate allegedly changes vehicle number plates to those of different states while carrying out operations in various locations in a bid to evade detection.

The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that the case remained under investigation and all those involved would be prosecuted upon conclusion of inquiries.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.

He also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime-fighting operations.
