NYSC Sanctions 12 Corps Members in Osun as 27 Others Abandon Duty Post

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sanctioned 12 corps members in Osun State by extending their service year, following violations recorded during the 2025 Batch A Stream II programme.

The announcement was made by the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, at a certificate presentation ceremony held in Osogbo on Thursday, where corps members who successfully completed their mandatory service year were formally honoured.

Kubiangha explained that the disciplinary actions were carried out in accordance with the NYSC Bye-Laws, which govern the behaviour and conduct of corps members throughout the national service period.

He also disclosed that 27 corps members had abandoned their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) without authorisation during the service year and were consequently penalised.

A total of 2,132 corps members were presented with their Certificates of National Service at the passing-out ceremony, having successfully fulfilled their obligations.

The coordinator stressed that the sanctions were essential to maintaining discipline and protecting the credibility of the national service scheme.

He commended the outgoing corps members for their commitment and the positive contributions they made to the communities where they served, describing the NYSC scheme as a valuable platform for both personal development and national growth.

Kubiangha urged the newly discharged corps members to continue upholding the values of patriotism, integrity, and discipline that the service year is designed to instil.

He also advised them to keep their certificates safe, noting the documents would be important for their future careers.

On the matter of security, the coordinator cautioned former corps members to steer clear of partisan political activities and inflammatory statements, particularly with elections approaching in the state.

He encouraged them to remain vigilant, avoid situations that could compromise their safety or public peace, and channel their energy into self-development and pursuing opportunities that would enable them to be self-sufficient.
