Ohanaeze Rally in Aba Sparks Voter Mobilisation Push Ahead of 2027 Elections

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has held a rally in Aba, Abia State, bringing together transporters, traders, youths and government workers to encourage mass participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at the event, the Abia State President of Ohanaeze, Chukwuemeka Okwuonu, called on all Igbo adults of voting age to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, describing it as a tool for reclaiming the region’s political relevance in Nigeria.

He stressed that the Igbo population is large enough to make a significant impact in the 2027 elections and urged parents not to allow any eligible adult in their household to miss the registration opportunity.

Okwuonu also announced that Ohanaeze would begin rewarding politicians from the region who perform well in office through votes, while using the same power to remove those who fail to deliver.

He expressed confidence that when the Igbo people fully mobilise, the results would shake the entire country.

Speaking earlier at the event, the President of the Ohanaeze chapter in Aba South Local Government Area, Uche Wogu, reminded the gathering that elected officials are essentially employees of the electorate and can be replaced through the ballot.

He urged Igbo youths in particular not to limit themselves to expressing opinions on social media, stressing that elections are won at polling units and not on platforms like Facebook or WhatsApp. He called on everyone, regardless of their occupation, to get registered and actively participate in shaping their own future.
