Osun Senator backs Tinubu for APC ticket after losing primary
The lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial in the National Assembly, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has allayed fear of implosion in the All Progressives Congress, calling on members of the party to support President Bola Tinubu in the presidential primary election.
Fadeyi, who made this known in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Friday, had lost APC Senatorial primary for 2027 ticket to Mr. Adekunle Adegoke (SAN) on Monday.
The defeat made him the only lawmaker, out of five elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party in 2023, but defected to APC in 2025, that failed to get re-election ticket on the platform of the new party.
In his first public communication after the primary, Fadeyi in the release, emphasised the need for unity, loyalty, and collective responsibility among APC stakeholders.
He also stressed that the strength of the party lies in its ability to stand together during critical moments.
Describing Tinubu “as a visionary leader whose commitment to national development, democratic values, and progressive governance has continued to inspire confidence across the country,” Fadeyi also said supporting the President’s candidacy in the APC primary, “is not only a strategic decision but also a reaffirmation of the party’s core principles and long-term goals.”
He subsequently urged delegates and party faithfuls to come out en masse and cast their votes in support of the President during the presidential primary, noting that a united front will further solidify APC’s chances of sustaining leadership at the national level.
“Now is the time to demonstrate our loyalty to the party and our belief in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I call on all APC faithfuls to stand firm, remain committed, and support his candidacy for the progress and stability of our great nation,” he stated.
He expressed optimism that the APC will “emerge stronger and more united after the primary election, ready to continue delivering on its promises to Nigerians.”
The PidomNigeria reports that the current lawmaker representing Osun East in the Senate, Francis Fadahunsi, has won the ticket of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.
This came as the Senator representing Osun Central, Olubiyi Fadeyi, lost the re-election ticket to Adekunle Adegoke.
Fadahunsi, presently serving as the Senate Committee on Industry, was first elected into the Senate in 2019 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.
In 2023, he was re-elected on the platform of the same party.
He, however, in 2025, alongside four other PDP lawmakers, defected to the All Progressives Congress.
In a video clip obtained by The PidomNigeria, the chairman of Osun APC primary election committee, Mr Bayo Ayo, who read the result, said, “Fadahunsi scored 23,593 votes to defeat his opponents, Mr Famurewa Isreal and Mr Thomas Ogungbangbe, who got 472 and 806 votes respectively. ”
In other results, the Senator representing Osun Central, Olubiyi Fadeyi, lost the re-election ticket to Adekunle Adegoke.
