Sanwo-Olu: Tinubu’s APC primary win shows trust in leadership
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on emerging as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Sanwo-Olu described the outcome of the APC presidential primaries as a reflection of the confidence party members still place in Tinubu’s leadership.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, the governor described the victory as well deserved and commended party officials for conducting what he called peaceful and organised primaries across the country.
The statement, signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, also praised the APC National Working Committee and state executives for ensuring a smooth exercise.
Sanwo-Olu said: “I congratulate our leader and President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2027 election.
“This victory reflects the confidence and trust that party members across the country continue to place in his leadership and his commitment to building a better Nigeria.”
The governor also praised the party’s adoption of direct primaries, saying the process strengthened internal democracy within the APC.
He said: “The adoption of direct primaries also demonstrates our party’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy by giving members a stronger voice in the selection process.”
Sanwo-Olu further commended Tinubu’s economic reforms and leadership style, saying the administration had taken difficult but necessary decisions aimed at stabilising the economy and laying the foundation for long-term growth.
He said: “Over the last few years, President Tinubu has taken important decisions aimed at stabilising the economy and laying the foundation for long-term growth.
“At critical moments, leadership requires courage and the willingness to take decisions that will move the country forward.”
Expressing optimism about the future, the governor said Nigerians would continue to support a vision built on courage and sustainable progress.
He said: “I am confident that Nigerians will continue to support a vision built on courage and sustainable progress.
“The journey continues, and together, we will keep working towards a nation that gives every citizen a fair opportunity to succeed.”
The APC presidential primaries were held on Saturday as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The result announced on Sunday showed that Tinubu polled over 10 million votes to defeat his closest challenger, Stanley Osifo.
