2 Men Jailed For Trafficking In 58.6kg Of Marijuana 

Two men, Ugwuja Kingsley Ejiofor and Okon Joe Christopher, have been convicted and sentenced to two years and four months imprisonment respectively, for trafficking in India hemps weighing 58.6 Kilogrames of cannabis sativa popularly called Indian hemp or marijuana.

The two men were given the jail-term terms by Justice Musa Kakaki of a Federal High Court, Lagos, after they both pleaded guilty to the separate charges made against them by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The first convict, Ugwuja Kingsley Ejiofor, was arraigned before the court on two counts charge of conspiracy and unlawful dealing in 58 Kilogrames of the prohibited drug. While the second convict, Okon Joe Christopher, 37, was arraigned on a count charge of unlawful dealing in 2.6 Kilogrames of the same drug.

The convicts acts, according to the prosecutor, Barrister Peter Ekuri, contravened sections Section 14 (a), 11(a) and 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. 

The convicts admitted committing the offences and pleaded guilty to the charges.

Following their guilty plea, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the charges, tendered all exhibits in the matter and prayed the court to convict and sentence the two men in accordance with the sections of the NDLEA acts they were charged with.

But Barrister G. U. Okaka, lawyer to Ugwuja Kingsley Ejiofor, and Barrister (Chief) Lilian Omotunde, lawyer to Okon Joe Christopher, in their separate allocutor, prayed the to be merciful with their clients, as they are first time convicts who did not have previous records of conviction, and among others.

In his judgment, Justice Kakaki after listening to the submissions of parties, sentenced the first convict, Ugwuja Kingsley Ejiofor to two years imprisonment on each of the counts.

The judge however ordered him to pay a total sum of N10 million as an option of fine.

On the second convict, Okon Joe Christopher, the judge sentenced him to four months imprisonment, but ordered him to pay the sum of N300, 000, 00 as fine option.

Charges against the convicts read: “That you UGWUJA KINGSLEY EJIOFOR “M” 35 years old, and one Sammy now at Large on or about the 19th day of February 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria within the jurisdiction o this Honourable Court, without lawful authority conspire amongst yourselves to import 56 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a Narcotic Drug similar to Cocaine, LSD and Heroin from Accra Ghana to Nigeria and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 14 (a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. 

“That you UGWUJA KINGSLEY EJIOFOR “M” 35 years old, on or about the 19th day February 2026, at Agbara Area, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Count without lawful authority imported 56 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a Narcotic Drug similar to Cocaine, LSD and Heroin from Accra Ghana to Nigeria and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11 (a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. 

“That you, Okon Joe Christopher, Adult, Male, 37 years old, on May 30, 2026, at Ladipo Canal Mushin, Lagos State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, without lawful authority dealt in 2.6 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a narcotic drug similar to Cocaine, LSD and Heroin an thereby committed an offence similar to section 11 (c) committed an offence as provided for and punishable under ews of the Federal National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N3 Republic of Nigeria 2004.”
