2026 guber: Osun Muslim group advises against violence

Muslims in Osun State have been advised to avoid political violence before, during, and after the August 15 governorship election in the state, and urged politicians to fulfil their campaign promises if elected as governor.
The President of Osun State Muslim Community (OSMC), Mustafa Olawuyi, recently gave the advice during an interaction with the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeemdeen Folasayo Salaam, at the OSMC secretariat in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The OSMC president condemned the recent reported incidents of political violence in many parts of the state and advised Muslims to stay safe and shun violence. Rather, he urged them to focus their campaign messages on issues rather than hate speech.
The chairman of Osun State Sharia Panel, who is also the Chief Imam of Telemu, Sheikh Musa Raji, and another imam, Sheikh Hasim Olapade, appealed to politicians, particularly the governorship candidates, to ensure that they fulfil their campaign promises after the election.
The OSMC president lauded the ADC candidate for his antecedents when he served as Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly and charged him to sustain his good deeds.
The ADC gubernatorial candidate, Salaam, assured that he would take the state to greater heights if elected as the next governor in the August 15 election.
Salaam used the occasion to highlight his agenda for the state, which includes economic, educational, agricultural, and infrastructural development, as well as the welfare of civil servants.
He promised to introduce initiatives that would make life better for the people, especially the vulnerable, people with disabilities, the aged, and the downtrodden.
