The spokesman to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, declaring that the administration has failed in its core constitutional duties of securing lives and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview shared online on Tuesday, Ibe argued that stepping down from office should not be seen as weakness but as an act of patriotism when a leader is unable to meet the demands of the position.
“It’s not a sign of weakness for a leader to resign. It’s a patriotic act,” he said.
He maintained that Nigeria is no safer today than it was in 2023 and dismissed government claims of progress on security as unconvincing, pointing to ongoing att@cks, k!dn@ppings and k!llings across various parts of the country.
“Their best is just not good enough. We can’t continue on this journey of trial and error. The truth of the matter is that Tinubu is incompetent and he’s clueless.
He came on board with no set skills. Nigeria is a very complex country, and to be able to govern this country, you need to be wired for that. He is not,” he said.
Ibe also cited recent violence in Plateau, Benue, Oyo and Kogi states as further evidence of government failure, referencing an att@ck in Bokkos on Sunday night in which he said about two dozen people were k!lled and others taken captive.
On the proposed state police, Ibe said while the concept has his support in principle, the current push for it ahead of the 2027 general elections is politically motivated.
“We support state police, but not at this time. Whatever shape or form it takes now, it is political,” he said.
