Boy, 3, tragically dies in house fire as hero dad rushed to hospital

A ‘cheeky’ three year old boy has tragically perished in a house fire in Australia after his father made a desperate attempt to re-enter the burning property to rescue him.

Jordan Dashwood lost his life on Monday morning after his residence in Melbourne’s outer southwest was consumed by flames.

Emergency services located the toddler’s body inside the burning dwelling on Newbury Newbury Street in Werribee shortly after midnight.

His 11 year old brother and parents were also present when the blaze erupted.

Jordan’s father, Jeremy Dashwood, 40, tried to get back inside the house through a smashed window, but was engulfed by flames and was taken to hospital in a serious condition with upper and lower body injuries, reports the Mirror.

The 11 year old brother managed to escape by leaping out of a window, the Daily Mail reports.

Two older siblings were not at the property at the time.

The house remains covered in ash, with his grandmother and mother seen on Monday morning standing at the scene in shock.

Jordan’s grandmother Tracie said firefighters just “couldn’t get to him” as the single-storey property was swallowed by flames.

“It was too hot,” she told 9News.

“I just miss that little man already. He was a bubble of energy.”

Family friend Bianca Mizzi said she ‘felt so sick’ and cried when she discovered what happened.

“Jordan was so beautiful, but so cheeky,” Ms Mizzi told The Age.

“When he was little, I used to love to cuddle him, but he wouldn’t have a bar of it.” Local resident Thanh Zannit recalled hearing a loud bang and witnessing enormous flames consuming the property, before attempting to assist using a garden hose that unfortunately failed to reach the blaze.

He said: “The lady was saying my baby’s inside – I feel really upset, I really wanted to help, but I couldn’t do anything.”

Emergency services arrived within three minutes of being notified of the fire.

“Sadly, a resident of the home died at the scene, and a second resident remains in hospital with serious injuries,” Senior Constable Paul Hogan said on ABC radio.

A statement added: “Crews extinguished the blaze, which had fully engulfed the home, before locating a child deceased inside.”

The fire was brought under control at around 1.15am.

Police are not treating the fire as suspicious.
