Breaking: How 22-year-old recruited others to kill renowned broadcaster — Police

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a 22-year-old who recruited others, for the murder of veteran female broadcaster, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
It said a handwritten note found at the scene and technical tracking of the deceased’s missing vehicle helped crack the case.
The command’s Commissioner, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Ojajuni said the case was reported at Owode-Egba Police Station on June 21, 2026 after suspicious circumstances were noticed at Oyesiku’s residence.
According to him, the front door of the house had been partially damaged, while the security house within the compound was locked.
Detectives who responded to the scene found Adetayo, 38, dead inside the security house, while Oyesiku’s body was discovered in a pool of blood in the living room.
The police commissioner said preliminary findings also showed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 was missing, raising suspicion of robbery and murder.
He said the command immediately launched intelligence gathering, technical tracking and investigation to identify those behind the killings and recover the vehicle.
Ojajuni said operatives recovered the Lexus on June 22 through technical tracking.
Although the ignition key had been removed and the number plates detached, he said detectives found the registration plate hidden under one of the seats, confirming the vehicle belonged to the deceased.
The police commissioner said a handwritten note recovered from the scene became a major breakthrough in the investigation after it was subjected to forensic analysis.
He said: “One critical piece of evidence recovered from the scene was a handwritten note apparently left behind by the perpetrators.
“The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads that significantly aided detectives in identifying and tracing those responsible for the crime.”
He said the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
Further operations, he added, led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
Ojajuni said Philip confessed to the crime and admitted recruiting the two other suspects.
According to him, the suspect told investigators he planned the attack over grievances he had with Oyesiku during the period he worked as a security guard in her home.
“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to ‘teach her a lesson,’” Ojajuni said.
He said the suspects carried out the attack on June 20 after first overpowering Adetayo and using him to gain access to the house.
“Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard,” the commissioner said.
He added that the suspects fled with the victim’s Lexus, which was later recovered at Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
Ojajuni said further searches linked to the suspects led to the recovery of a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other exhibits connected to the case.
He said investigation was still ongoing to consolidate evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of everyone connected with the crime.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” he said.
