Brits in Magaluf face change to pubs and restaurants' closing time during World Cup 2026

British tourists staying in Spain’s Magaluf, Palmanova, and other parts of Calvia during the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be able to enjoy major matches more comfortably, as local authorities have introduced special measures to extend venue opening hours. Calvia Town Hall, the local authority overseeing one of the most loved Spanish resorts by British people, has given bars and restaurants permission to stay open later than usual during selected games, allowing football fans to watch matches through to the end without interruption.

This initiative aims to enhance the viewing experience for visitors while also balancing the needs of local residents by minimising noise and disruption. According to the new rules, bars and restaurants in the popular tourist destinations will be able to stay open up to 15 minutes after a match finishes if kick-off takes place during their normal opening hours.

The exemption will apply to games involving England, Scotland, Spain and Germany, as well as the semi-finals, third-place play-off and the World Cup final, reports Majorca Daily Bulletin.

The measures are based on a similar strategy implemented during Euro 2024, which local authorities considered successful.

With popular tourist destinations like Magaluf and Palmanova set to draw large numbers of football fans during the tournament, many venues are preparing to host special screenings to accommodate the influx of visitors and enhance the overall World Cup experience.

To ensure a fair balance between the excitement of football fans and the comfort of local residents, venues will have to switch off any outdoor sound systems after midnight, although they can continue broadcasting matches indoors or via low-noise setups.

The World Cup is starting on June 11 and will end on July 19.

England will play its first match on June 17, against Croatia, followed by a game against Ghana on June 23 and Panama on June 27.

Scotland is to face Haiti on June 14, Morocco on June 19 and Brazil on June 24.
