Bye-election: Labaran Maku urges INEC, security agencies to remain neutral

Labaran Maku, the Labour Party, LP, candidate for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye-election, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, security agencies and civil society organisations to remain neutral and ensure a transparent electoral process.

Mr Maku, a former Minister of Information, made the call on Thursday while addressing journalists in Wakama, Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the transparent conduct of the bye-election, scheduled for June 20, would promote peace, unity and confidence in the democratic process across the senatorial district.

“I want to use this medium to call on security agencies, INEC and civil society groups to remain neutral and ensure that the bye-election is conducted transparently,” he said.

The LP candidate also expressed optimism about his chances in the election, insisting that he would emerge victorious if the process was free, fair and credible.

“By God’s grace, I will win the election if it is free, fair and transparent.
“If you go to Nasarawa-Eggon, Akwanga and Wamba Local Government Areas, you will find that the Labour Party enjoys overwhelming support.

“This is because of our grassroots initiatives and commitment to serving the people,” he said.

Mr Maku also urged his supporters and residents of the senatorial district to maintain peace before, during and after the election.

“I am a man of peace because without peace, no meaningful development can be achieved.

“I therefore urge my supporters and all other stakeholders to remain peaceful throughout the electoral process,” he said.
