Court Grants ₦200 Million Bail to Omoyele Sowore as Cybercrime Trial Deepens

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail under strict conditions to a well known political figure, Omoyele Sowore, in an ongoing cybercrime case that continues to draw national attention.

Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a ₦200 million bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, who is facing alleged cybercrime charges.

In a ruling on Tuesday, Justice Umar ordered Sowore to produce two sureties, with one required to be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community and the other required to own landed property in Abuja.

The court also directed that the sureties be verified by the prosecution.

In addition, Justice Umar ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the determination of the case.

The judge thereafter released the defendant to his lawyers and adjourned the case until Monday, July 6, for the opening of Sowore’s defence.
