Donald Trump slammed 'moron' after announcing new US passport with face on

Donald Trump has been slammed a ‘moron’ after unveiling a new commemorative passport online, featuring a photo of himself.

The new limited edition US passport has been designed to commemorate America’s 250th birthday and Trump shared a photo of the newly designed pages on his social media.

One includes an image of the president with his fists on the Resolute Desk with the Declaration of Independence in the background and his signature below.

The limited passports will be available from July 6 and only while supplies last, the US State Department said.

Although the image of Trump on the passport has received backlash, the words the US president claimed are on the new documentation became the focus of the announcement as people insisted he must be unaware of how a passport works.

Trump introduced the new passport on Truth Social and said: “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’” although the text “welcome but be good” does not appear in the images of the passport pages that he shared in his post.

Social media users responded to the reveal suggesting that Trump is confused with how a passport functions.

One user said: “Who does the moron think gets passports? The next president needs to cancel this crap and declare it invalid.”

Another added: “Ummmm… U.S. passports are used by U.S. citizens traveling abroad. Welcome to what?”

Others shared their opinion on the newly designed document, adding: “Sad part? No other president in history put their face on a U.S. passport. Not Washington. Not Lincoln. Just the 34-count felon.”

The document is currently very limited and only available to American citizens.

The state department said that Americans have to apply for the limited passports at an in-person visit to the passport agency in Washington DC, according to the Mirror US.

It marks the first time a living, current president has been featured on a US passport.

The state department will release 40,000 of the limited-edition commemorative passports with them becoming the default version issued to anyone who applies in person at the Washington Passport Agency.
