Ekiti 2026: Government declares work-free day

The Ekiti State Government has declared June 19, 2026 a work-free day for all public servants ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

This, the state said, is to enable the civil servants to travel to their various voting centres to participate in the poll on June 20, 2026.

The Governor of Ekiti State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the poll, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, gave the approval.

According to a circular issued by the Office of Establishments and Service Matters, the work-free day is intended to facilitate the smooth movement of public servants to their respective destinations before the election.

The government, however, clarified that the directive does not apply to personnel in essential service sectors.

Hospitals and health centres, Fire Service, and other critical service providers are expected to remain operational throughout the period.

The heads of the affected Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to draw up duty rosters to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

The state government also urged all eligible voters to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly before, during, and after the election while exercising their constitutional right to vote.

The circular announcing the work-free day was signed by B. O. Famoyin, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments and Service Matters.
