“FG committed to upholding human rights” – Ribadu

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding citizens’ rights, the rule of law, and accountability.

National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu gave the assurance while speaking at the opening of the 4th United Kingdom-Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership (SDP4) in Abuja on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Ribadu said the FG is focused on delivering effective and sustainable security through strong institutions, public trust, and respect for fundamental freedoms.

He noted that Nigeria’s security landscape will increasingly be shaped by the effective deployment of technology, information, and data.

“The future security landscape will be shaped not only by conventional threats but also by technology, information and data.

“Criminal and hostile actors are increasingly exploiting cyberspace, artificial intelligence, digital platforms and illicit financial networks to advance their objectives,” Ribadu said.

He also acknowledged the United Kingdom’s continued support, particularly in cybersecurity and information resilience.

“I therefore acknowledge the United Kingdom’s continued support in cybersecurity and information resilience initiatives. This cooperation has become increasingly important in a world where information can be weaponised to undermine trust in institutions, exploit societal divisions and weaken national cohesion.

“We welcome ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation through intelligence-sharing, joint analysis and practical measures designed to address these emerging challenges,” he said.

Describing Nigeria as Africa’s foremost security actor, Ribadu assured that the country would continue to work with international partners to strengthen regional stability, promote democratic governance, and build collective resilience against shared threats.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
