Fish out, prosecute terrorists, financiers – Criminologists tell Tinubu 

The Nigeria Society of Criminology (NSC) has advised the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to fish out and prosecute those involved in and financing kidnapping, terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes in the country.

NSC President, Professor Oludayo Tade, made this declaration in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday.

Tade, in the statement issued at the end of the just-concluded 2026 international conference of the association, tasked Tinubu with intensifying efforts towards securing lives and property across the country.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NSC, Professor Etannibi Alemika; former President of the Canadian Sociological Association, Professor Temitope Oriola; and other distinguished scholars.

The don explained that the first constitutional duty of Tinubu is to protect lives and property in the country.

He said the inability of the President to carry out his primary constitutional duty means that he has failed.

Tade, while speaking, enjoined Tinubu to ensure that bandits, terrorists and their collaborators are fished out and prosecuted without wasting more time.

He said: “As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the President must protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria and then ensure that Nigerians are free from fear of travelling on the roads or being abducted from schools and their communities.

“Their local collaborators in and outside government must be fished out and punished. The President must display the political will to secure Nigeria and Nigerians.”

The keynote speaker and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Democracy and Development, Abuja, Professor Jibrin Ibrahim, lamented the worsening insecurity in the country.

He said the way out of the problems facing the country is for the government in power to act fast.

He added that the government should not fail in its responsibility to protect the lives and property of citizens.

“Nigeria is tearing at the seams because of a profound sense of insecurity among citizens who feel that the situation is so terrible that disintegration may not be that bad. Even that option is, however, just another pathway to chaos, as the outcome might be worse. The only way forward is for the Nigerian State to do its work, secure the country, and protect citizens. Our first step should be to realise that, in spite of everything going on, there is value in protecting Nigeria.”
