“Give and Go!”-Tuchel’s Heated Moment With Spence Captured on Camera

England manager Thomas Tuchel was involved in a tense moment with defender Djed Spence during the Three Lions’ goalless draw against Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As England struggled to break through Ghana’s organized defensive setup, cameras captured Tuchel repeatedly trying to get instructions across to the Tottenham full-back.

Spence initially appeared not to notice his manager’s calls, which led to a frustrated reaction from Tuchel on the touchline.

When the defender finally looked towards him, Tuchel shouted “give and go” while using hand gestures to explain the movement he wanted.

The moment quickly went viral, with fans discussing the intensity of the exchange during a difficult match for England.

Reports after the game suggested Tuchel wanted Spence to play a bigger role in England’s attacking moves by pushing forward from wide positions and making runs behind Ghana’s defense.

The incident came during a match where England controlled much of the possession but struggled to create clear chances against a disciplined Ghana side.

The draw kept Group L open, with both teams still competing for qualification.

Tuchel later clarified that there was no problem between him and Spence, explaining that he was simply trying to communicate instructions in a loud World Cup stadium.
