Horror as girl, 12, found 5 months pregnant – neighbour suspected of rape

A 12-year-old girl has been found pregnant, with her neighbour suspected of rape. The girl was confirmed five months pregnant after her aunt noticed physical changes on Tuesday (June 2).

It’s reported that the suspect, her 60-year-old neighbour, has fled the area and is yet to be arrested. The girl started visiting his house to help with chores around seven months ago, but he reportedly started to sexually assault her. On one occasion, the suspect is said to have forced her into a room and raped her. It has now been confirmed that the girl is pregnant, with her family pleading with authorities to track down the suspected rapist.

As reported by The Business Standard, the girl was raped in the Shahrasti upzila (subdistrict) of Chandpur District in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The attacker allegedly threatened to kill her parents if she told them what happened.

However, on June 2, the girl’s aunt noticed physical changes in the girl before she revealed she had been raped. She was taken to hospital where it was confirmed she was five months pregnant.

The suspect has since fled the area, with the girl’s mother telling local media: “My daughter is now five months pregnant. We will seek legal action and demand justice from the administration.”

Politician Md Aminul Islam added: “It is a shameful incident involving a helpless family’s young daughter. I demand exemplary punishment for the accused.”

Meanwhile, local police officer Mir Mahbubur Rahman said no formal complaint had yet been filed with the force. He added: “If a complaint is received, the matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken accordingly.”

The Shahrasti subdistrict has a population of just over 250,000 people. It covers an area of over 154 square kilometeres and is known for its ancient three-dome mosque.
