Ekiti 2026: APC unveils Akpabio-Sani-led campaign council

The All Progressives Congress will on Wednesday formally inaugurate its National Campaign Council for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election, bringing together some of the party’s most influential political figures in a major mobilisation push ahead of the poll.
The inauguration will take place at the Kashim Shettima Hall of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja at noon, according to a statement issued on Monday by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
The campaign council will be chaired by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio will serve as co-chairman. Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele has been appointed secretary of the council.
According to the ruling party, the council comprises serving and former governors, principal officers of the National Assembly and other senior party leaders tasked with coordinating and driving APC’s campaign activities ahead of the Ekiti governorship election.
The inauguration marks the official commencement of the party’s statewide mobilisation efforts as it seeks to retain power in the South-West state.
To strengthen campaign coordination, the APC said it had established several specialised subcommittees covering critical aspects of the election campaign, including election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots engagement, logistics, media and publicity, security, women’s mobilisation, youth mobilisation and secretariat functions.
“The Council, comprised of serving and former governors, principal officers of the National Assembly, and other eminent party leaders, is tasked with coordinating and driving the Party’s campaign activities ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship Election,” the statement said.
The party described the inauguration as a key milestone in its preparations for the governorship contest and an important step toward intensifying grassroots mobilisation across the state.
“The inauguration is an important part of activities to kick-start mobilisation across Ekiti State towards a victorious outing in the upcoming governorship election,” APC stated.
Political observers are expected to closely watch the campaign council’s activities, given the prominence of its members and the strategic importance of Ekiti in the APC’s South-West political stronghold.
