Inauguration of Ramat Park Flyover in November Excites Benin Residents

Residents and traders in Benin City, Edo State, on Wednesday expressed excitement as Governor Monday Okpebholo inspected the ongoing construction of the Ramat Park flyover and announced plans for its commissioning in November.

The governor, who embarked on an inspection tour of the project, said he was satisfied with the pace and quality of work at the site.

Speaking with journalists after the inspection, Okpebholo said the construction of the flyover had recorded significant progress, adding that the road network around the project area was also receiving attention.

“We have gone round to see how far the construction of the Ramat Park flyover has progressed. Apart from the flyover, the road network within the area is equally commendable.

“This place is now more beautiful than it was before. We are also making serious progress in the storm water drainage system around the facility.

“We are hoping that President Bola Tinubu will come to commission this project by November during the celebration of my two years in office.

“Before then, we would have made a lot of progress. The park should also be ready, so that this place will become very beautiful. This place is already turning into a tourist attraction to many people.

“You can see how excited the children and residents are. They are happy and having fun, and if you ask me, that is the essence,” the governor said.

Okpebholo also commended the Federal Government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy, saying the policy had improved the financial capacity of states. He added that governors were now able to meet their obligations because of improved federal allocations.

The Project Manager of the flyover, Li Jianshou, said the project was over 95 per cent completed.

Jianshou explained that the remaining works include the installation of street lights, expansion of junctions, road markings, and painting of the bridge.

He assured that the project would be delivered for commissioning in November as announced by the governor.

Residents and traders who came out in large numbers cheered the governor and his entourage during the inspection.

A resident, Mrs Queen Ehanire, said the project had transformed the appearance of Ikpoba Hill and renewed confidence among residents and business owners.

“Benin is more beautiful compared to past years. Governor Okpebholo has done well with this project,” she said.

Another resident, Mr James Osaigbovo, said the completed flyover would attract more visitors and boost commercial activities in the area.

A commercial driver, Mr David Uwadia, expressed optimism that the redesigned park would reduce traffic congestion and improve transportation around Ramat Park.
