Insecurity: Kwankwaso denies planned protest, urges change through ballot

Former Kano State governor and vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has distanced himself and his political movement from social media reports claiming he is organizing a nationwide protest over Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

In a statement released on Monday, Kwankwaso said the message being circulated was false and did not reflect the position of him or his political party, warning the public against spreading what he described as disinformation.

“Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country,” he said.

The former presidential candidate stressed that neither he nor his political associates support actions capable of disrupting public order or endangering lives and property.

“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” he stated.

Kwankwaso further reaffirmed his commitment to democratic processes, insisting that elections remain the most effective avenue for citizens to express dissatisfaction and seek political change.

“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change,” he said.

Kwankwaso further expressed confidence in his party’s prospects, noting that the NDC was focused on securing victory through democratic means.

“Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means,” he stated.

He therefore urged members of the public to disregard the circulating message and be wary of individuals spreading false information.

“The general public is therefore advised to disregard the false message and ignore those peddling such disinformation,” Kwankwaso said.
