Kaduna Govt welcomes arraignment of 24 suspects over Maraban-Jos mob killing

The Kaduna State Government has welcomed the arrest and arraignment of 24 suspects in connection with the mob killing of a woman in the Maraban Jos area of the state, describing the development as a significant step toward ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, commended the Kaduna State Police Command for its swift response, thorough investigation, and professionalism in bringing the suspects before the court.

Mr Maiyaki said the administration of Governor Uba Sani strongly condemns mob violence, jungle justice and all forms of extra-judicial actions, stressing that no individual or group has the right to take over the responsibilities of law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

“The Kaduna State Government welcomes the arrest and arraignment of the suspects linked to this unfortunate incident and commends the Police Command for its prompt and professional handling of the case,” the commissioner said.

“The rule of law remains the foundation of every democratic society, and no grievance, allegation or suspicion can justify the taking of a person’s life outside the framework of the law.”

He described the incident as a tragic reminder of the dangers of lawlessness and urged residents to channel complaints and allegations through established legal and security institutions rather than resorting to self-help.

According to him, Governor Sani’s administration will not tolerate mob action or jungle justice under any circumstances.

“We urge residents to report suspected criminal activities to the appropriate security agencies and allow the law to take its course. Anyone found taking the law into their own hands will face the full weight of the law, regardless of status or affiliation,” he said.

The commissioner expressed confidence in the ongoing police investigation, noting that the command had disclosed that more than 100 additional suspects were still being investigated for their alleged roles in the incident.

He assured residents of the government’s continued support for security agencies and judicial institutions in their efforts to maintain public order, ensure accountability and protect the rights of citizens.

Mr Maiyaki also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and called on residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies.

“The sanctity of human life must be respected at all times. Kaduna State will continue to stand firmly for justice, peaceful coexistence and adherence to the rule of law. We must collectively reject violence and vigilantism in all its forms,” he added.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all those found culpable in the incident are brought to justice through due process, while urging citizens to remain law-abiding and vigilant.
