Kano Shuts Down Two Private Health Colleges Over Illegal Operation and Standards Breach

The Kano State Government has shut down two private health training institutions in Nasarawa Local Government Area over regulatory violations and failure to meet minimum standards for operating health training schools in the state.

The affected institutions are IBN SINA College of Health Science and Technology, located at Dakata Kawaji adjacent to a Juma’at Mosque, and Life Line College of Health Science and Technology, situated at Dakata Industrial Area along Bela Road, Tsamiyar Gare.

The state Ministry of Health announced the closure in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, saying the action followed a comprehensive assessment which found both institutions to be operating illegally.

According to the ministry, neither school had been properly verified or approved by the state Ministry of Health, and both lacked accreditation from relevant professional and regulatory bodies responsible for health education and training.

Investigations further uncovered major deficiencies in the institutions, including inadequate qualified teaching personnel, poor learning facilities, insufficient infrastructure, and non-compliance with established educational and operational standards.

The ministry added that the institutions had also failed to adhere to professional ethics and regulatory guidelines put in place to safeguard the quality of healthcare education and ensure the competence of future healthcare professionals.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students, parents, and the general public from institutions that compromise educational quality and professional standards, stressing that the training of healthcare workers must be conducted only in institutions that meet approved regulatory requirements.

The government also warned proprietors of health training institutions across the state to strictly comply with all legal and regulatory provisions governing their operations, noting that shutting down non-compliant institutions had become necessary to maintain excellence in healthcare service delivery across Kano State.
