Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Disturbing Subway Crime in New York

Felix Rojas, 44, was given a five-year prison sentence by a New York court for sexually assaulting a deceased man’s body on a Manhattan subway train.

The case stemmed from the death of 37-year-old Jorge Gonzalez, who lost consciousness and died on an R train in April 2025.

Prosecutors said surveillance footage showed Rojas approaching Gonzalez after noticing he was unresponsive, with court documents indicating he also searched through the victim’s pockets during the incident.

Rojas, a Brooklyn resident, reportedly surrendered to police roughly three weeks after the incident, having identified himself from surveillance images circulated during the investigation, though he initially denied any wrongdoing when questioned.

Beyond the prison term, the court ordered that he be placed under 15 years of supervised release following his sentence.

Immigration authorities identified Rojas as a Mexican national who had previously made several unlawful attempts to enter the United States.

Gonzalez, the victim, had lived in the US for nearly two decades, working a range of jobs to support family members back in Mexico.

Speaking after the sentencing, his relatives described him as a devoted father and hardworking man who took on construction, restaurant, and service industry jobs to provide for his loved ones.

The case attracted significant attention across the United States due to the disturbing nature of the crime and the broader questions it raised about passenger safety and monitoring within New York City’s transit system.
