The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced its petrol pump price for the second time in four days.

According to a market survey conducted by Daily Post, NNPCL retail outlets around Airport Junction, Wuse Zone 6, and Berger in Abuja had reduced the pump price of petrol to ₦1,210 per litre from ₦1,260 per litre.

KeepLoss reports that the latest adjustment means that the state-owned oil company slashed petrol price by ₦50 per litre.

The development came barely two days after Dangote Refinery reduced its petrol gantry price by ₦50 to ₦1,125 per litre.

It also followed an earlier adjustment by NNPCL four days ago, when the company reduced its fuel pump price by ₦75 per litre to ₦1,260 per litre.

With the latest reduction by NNPCL retail outlets, petrol prices now range between ₦1,210 and ₦1,305 per litre in Abuja and its environs.

The reduction in domestic petrol prices came amid a drop in global crude oil prices.

West Texas Intermediate crude traded around $69 per barrel, while Brent crude stood at about $71 per barrel, following the easing of conflict in the Middle East.

The decline in crude oil prices has continued to fuel public expectations that domestic petrol pump prices should also drop significantly.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s government of Oyo State has lifted the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The government had earlier imposed a 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. curfew on the affected councils as part of security measures after the incident.

The curfew was later extended by 24 hours on Thursday.

KeepLoss reports that the affected local government areas are Atiba, Atisbo, Irepo, Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Olorunsogo, Oriire, Oorelope, Saki West, and Saki East.

The councils border the Old Oyo National Park, an area that has recently drawn security attention following the kidnapping episode.

In a statement issued on Saturday (today) in Ibadan, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said residents in the affected areas could now resume their normal activities.

Oyelade thanked the people of the affected communities for their cooperation and understanding during the period the curfew lasted.

He said the state government appreciated the sacrifices made by residents while the security measure was in force.

The commissioner added that the state government was closely monitoring the security situation in the affected areas.

He reassured residents that efforts were ongoing to bring the kidnapping episode to an end and strengthen security across the affected communities.

Oyelade urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of security agencies as the government continues to address the situation.

Former Vice President of Nigeria and Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has described the attempt to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), through judicial means, as evidence of the desperate determination of President Bola Tinubu to impose a one-party state in Nigeria.

Atiku said the move is also against the democratic wishes and aspirations of Nigerians.

According to him, President Tinubu is afraid of a free and fair 2027 election.

KeepLoss recalls that a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.

Justice Isah Dashen, who delivered the ruling on Friday, held that the court’s December 10, 2025, judgment adversely affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party, which was not joined as a party in the suit.

Reacting to the development, Atiku said he is not surprised by the disturbing situation, which may have grave consequences if the sinister plot to weaken opposition parties to help Tinubu have his way in the 2027 election comes to fruition.

According to Atiku in a statement on Saturday by his media office, the participation of citizens in a free, fair and credible poll is the soul of democracy, and any attempt to stifle such freedom of choice could be a trigger to chaos and anarchy.

The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of all 24 chairmanship seats in the just-concluded local government elections in the state.

The ruling party also won all 240 councillorship positions across the wards in the state.

The commission announced the results after the conclusion of the council polls, which were contested by six political parties.

According to the commission, the parties that participated in the chairmanship elections were the All Progressives Congress, Youth Party, National Rescue Movement, Zenith Labour Party, African Action Congress, and Democratic Liberation Alliance.

The parties fielded candidates for the chairmanship seats across the 24 local government areas of the state.

However, the APC cleared all the available seats at both chairmanship and councillorship levels.

5. ‘We Will Take Decision In Line With Court’s Directives’ – INEC Speaks On Judgment Regarding NDC Deregistration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will make an informed, lawful decision in line with the court’s directives after its legal department receives the Certified True Copy of the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which nullified the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

KeepLoss reports that INEC, in a statement issued on Saturday by its Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser, Adedayo Oketola, said the Commission was aware of media reports on the June 26 judgment.

According to the statement, the electoral umpire could not comment on its specifics until its legal department obtained and reviewed the court’s decision.

6. Police Speak On Recruiting Repentant Terrorists

The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked reports that it has plans to recruit some repentant terrorists.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the North Central Zone, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, made the clarification during a stakeholders meeting with officers and men of the Kwara state Police command, traditional institution, religious heads, transport unions, among others, in Ilorin, the state capital.

The police boss, who urged community heads, religious leaders, and security chiefs not to append their signatures on recommendation letters for people with questionable characters, urged the leaders to identify and expose criminals so that they are not allowed into the system.

According to him, leaders who sign recommendation forms for such persons will bear the consequences alongside their communities when such people find their way into the system

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a Kaduna State farmer and herder, Nura Idris, after an internal investigation found no evidence linking him to Boko Haram.

According to security expert Zagazola Makama, the decision followed a review ordered by the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi.

KeepLoss understands that the review panel examined Idris’ case and concluded that the allegations against him could not be supported, leading to his immediate release.

In addition to regaining his freedom, Idris received ₦3 million from the agency to help him meet urgent needs and begin rebuilding his life.

The DSS leadership also promised to assist him in reviving his business.

According to security sources, Idris, who is from Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested in Suleja, Niger State, in June 2024 by another security agency over suspected links to terrorists.

He was later transferred to the custody of the DSS for further investigation.

After reviewing all available records and findings, the DSS concluded that there was no basis to continue holding him.

This prompted the agency’s leadership to approve both his release and financial support.

Nollywood actress cum movie producer, Funke Akindele, playfully scolded her colleague, Eniola Badmus, following a recent public dispute with a makeup artist.

KeepLoss reports that the controversy started after Eniola Badmus expressed her frustration on social media after the makeup artist failed to show up for a booked appointment.

Eniola also shared the makeup artist’s phone number online and encouraged followers to call her out.

In response, the makeup artist defended herself, explaining that the appointment had not been confirmed because no advance payment had been made.

According to the makeup artist, she has a policy requiring payment before bookings are secured, and she added that she spoke publicly only after receiving numerous online threats.

In a video posted on Snapchat on Saturday, Funke jokingly confronted Badmus over the incident, saying, “Badosky, why were you misbehaving online?”

Funke Akindele recalled repeatedly advising Eniol against engaging in online confrontations.

9. Kola Oyewo: Family Announces Three-day Burial Rites For Veteran Actor

The remains of renowned Nigerian actor and theatre scholar, Chief Dr Adekola Gabriel Oyewo, popularly known as Kola Oyewo, will be laid to rest on Friday, August 7, 2026, in Osun State.

This was disclosed in a funeral programme released by his family.

Oyewo, who died at the age of 80, was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost theatre practitioners, with a career spanning stage, television and academia.

In a funeral announcement, the Bangbola Oyewo family of the Ese-Ola Royal House, Oba-Ile, described the late actor as “a beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, colleague, esteemed traditional ruler, and a veteran of the Nigerian theatre.”

KeepLoss reports that the burial programme, issued by the Balogun Oyekola Oyewo Memorial Committee, showed that the three-day funeral rites would run from Wednesday, August 5, to Friday, August 7, 2026.

According to the programme, activities for the burial rites will begin on Wednesday, August 5, with a wake-keep and service of songs at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Igboya, Ile-Ife.

On Thursday, August 6, a commendation mass will be held at the same church.

Later that day, an artistes’ night featuring tributes and cultural performances will take place at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

As part of the funeral events, an exhibition of Oyewo’s works and photographs will be held at the Pit Theatre in the African Studies Building at Obafemi Awolowo University.

The exhibition will begin on Thursday, August 6, and continue till Friday, August 7.

10. ‘I Still Talk To Diogo Jota’ – Neves Shares Conversation With Late Liverpool Player

Portugal midfielder Ruben Neves has revealed that he still sends WhatsApp messages to his late friend and former teammate, Diogo Jota, nearly one year after the Liverpool forward died in a tragic car crash.

Neves made the emotional disclosure while speaking on SIC’s Alta Definição, saying he and Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, had kept a WhatsApp group which still includes Jota’s account.

According to him, the group has remained a private space where special moments are shared in memory of the late footballer.

Neves said he still sends messages to Jota whenever something important happens, adding that the conversations have been archived on his WhatsApp.

“I still talk to him. Few people know this,” Neves said.

“We have a WhatsApp group with Rute and Diogo, and it’s still there. Whenever something special happens, I have the conversations archived on my WhatsApp so I can continue to send him messages.”
