Nigerian Man Sparks Debate After Comparing US Welfare System to Life in Nigeria

In a video filmed at a sunny lakeside, a Nigerian man identified as Oyindamola explains how access to United States public services including free education, parks and assistance for low-income residents has replaced the fervent prayers he once made back home amid Nigeria’s widespread job scarcity and poverty.
He urged Nigerians to either demand better governance from their leaders or consider emigrating, noting that even animals enjoy rights and protections in the country.
The clip sparked divided reactions online with some viewing it as a pointed critique of failed leadership in Nigeria, while religious voices pushed back, arguing that prayer serves a deeper spiritual purpose beyond making requests.
The video touches on the broader tensions surrounding Nigeria’s growing ‘Japa’ emigration wave, through which millions of citizens continue to seek more reliable systems and better living conditions abroad.
Since I came to America, I haven’t prayed for more than 10 minutes, all the things I use to pray for back in Nigeria, I got to the USA and found out that the government already provided everything for free… So why do i need to be praying for 1 hour? pic.twitter.com/BS0A03t50C
