Oba of Benin summons traditional Doctors, Okaigheles over security concerns

BENIN CITY – The Benin Traditional Council (BTC), on the directive of Oba Ewuare II, has summoned traditional doctors and Okaigheles across the Benin Kingdom to separate emergency meetings as part of efforts to address prevailing security challenges in Edo State.
According to palace announcements signed by Chief Asiriuwa Victor Nosakhare (Obarisiuwa N’Iweguae), all Igiohen N’ Ikpia and Igiohen N’ Ikhuo (traditional doctors) are to attend a meeting at Ugha Ozolua, Oba Palace, Benin City, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 12 noon.
Similarly, all Okaigheles have been directed to attend a meeting at the same venue and time on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The palace said the meetings are aimed at exploring traditional and strategic measures to complement government efforts to restore peace, order and security across the kingdom. Details of the agenda were not disclosed.
