Police arrest three suspected cultists, recover guns in Osun

The Osun state police command has arrested three suspected cultists and political thugs in separate operations across the state, recovering firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons.
The command also confirmed the recovery of three English Beretta pistols, a locally made cut-to-size gun, live cartridges, cutlasses, axes, and charms during the operations.
In a statement issued by DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the police public relations officer, the suspects were identified as Adekola Olayinka Abdulazeez (27), Omolara Ezekiel (28), and Babatunde Azeez (32).
According to the statement, the first suspect was arrested during a stop-and-search operation by police patrol teams in Ikirun area command on May 22, 2026.
During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity and claimed he was delivering arms to another member before his arrest.
“Search was conducted on him, and two English Beretta pistols, one axe and charms were recovered,” the statement said.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the other two suspects and additional recovery of weapons, including a short cut-to-size gun, one Beretta pistol with live ammunition, cutlasses, axes, and cartridges.
The police said all the suspects are undergoing further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate.
CP Ibrahim Gotan, the commissioner of police warned political thugs and criminal groups to desist from activities capable of disturbing the peace of the state, assuring that the command will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to rid Osun of criminal elements.
