Police promise to end Plateau killings

The Nigerian Police Force, NPF, says it has put stringent measures in place to tackle the security challenges confronting Plateau.

Maurice Dankwambo, the Aassistant Inspector General, AIG, incharge of Zone 4, said this when he visited Gov. Caleb Mutfwang on Wednesday in Jos.

Mr Dankwambo said he was in Plateau on the directives of Mr Olatunji Disu, the Inspector General of Police, over the recent security breach in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that gunmen on Sunday attacked and killed 20 persons at Kawel community in Bokkos Local Government Area of the state.

The AIG described the incessant attacks and wanton destruction of lives and property in the state as unacceptable.

“The act perpetrated by this criminals is barbaric, wicked, and completely unacceptable.

“The NPF and other security agencies strongly condemn such acts of criminality and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested, and made to face the full weight of the law.

“This visit also is aimed at rebuilding our existing security plans in the affected areas to identify the possible gaps, and reinforce our operational strategies to ensure that the people are better protected and prevented from further attacks.

“Let me assure the government and the good people of Plateau that the security agencies are not resting.

“Our tactical teams and operation units are fully committed and already taking steps to restore confidence and to bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice,” he said.

Mr Dankwambo, however, called on residents of the state to support the Police and other security agencies in addressing the menace.

Responding, Mr Mutfwang, who thanked the AIG for the visit, promised to support the efforts of the security agencies towards ensuring a peaceful Plateau.

Mr Mutfwang said that his administration had initiated several policies and programmes aimed at addressing the security challenges in the state.

The governor promised stronger collaboration with the Police and other security agencies towards stemming the tide of insecurity in Plateau.

He, however, urged the security agencies to reevaluate their strategies in order to end the circle of violence in the state.

“One thing is very clear; that we can’t keep doing the same thing and expect better results.

“We, therefore, need to continuously review what we have been doing. We need to restrategise,” Mr Mutfwang said.
