Self-acclaimed Doctor Remanded Over Alleged N941m Investment Scam 

A 40-year-old self-acclaimed medical doctor, Blessed Chigozie Iroabuchi, has been remanded by a Federal High Court in Lagos, over allegations of impersonation, obtaining by false pretence and N941 million fraud. 

The defendant was remanded by Justice Ahmed Ibrahim Kala, who presided over the court after he pleaded not guilty to the 14 counts charge filed against him by the operatives of the State Criminal investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, Lagos, in the charge marked  FHC/L/408C/2026.

The prosecutor , Barrister Samuel Oloruntoba, had told the court that Iroabuchi allegedly posed as a medical doctor and claimed to possess exclusive franchise rights for the importation of pharmaceutical wellness products into Nigeria in order to attract investors.

The prosecutor alleged that between 2024 and 2025, the defendant convinced multiple individuals to invest substantial sums of money in the purported pharmaceutical importation business. 

Among the victims was Mr. Ifechukwu Onwuegbusi, from whom Iroabuchi allegedly obtained N378.05 million in June 2024.

The charge further stated that the defendant allegedly collected N154.7 million from Mr. Ndukwem Martin, N204 million from Mr. Ndimkaoha Solomon Nnamezie, N95 million from Mrs. Okeke Chima Susan, and N51.5 million from Mrs. Ohaeri Victoria under the same representation that he was a medical practitioner with exclusive rights to import pharmaceutical products.

He was alleged to have in December 2025, obtained N58 million from Mr. Nwokedi Cosmas after claiming he needed funds to resolve issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and recover properties allegedly seized by the agency.

The police also alleged that the defendant falsely presented himself as a medical doctor who has over the years worked with AB-DI-GATE Hospital and later as the Chief Executive Officer of Lydiacare Hospital, both located within the Army Post-Service Housing Estate in Ojo, Lagos.

The defendant and others said to be at large were accused of forging an EFCC clearance letter dated April 7, 2026, which he allegedly used to convince one of the complainants to release additional funds.

The prosecutor said the defendant’s alleged crimes are contrary to sections 364 and 465, punishable under Section 418 and punishable under section 419(a) of the criminal code Act Cap C38 Laws of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, 2004. And Sections 383, 484, 467 and 467(1)(b) of the Criminal Code Act Cap C38 Laws Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria, 2004. 

Though, the self-acclaimed medical doctor denied all the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the 14 counts charge.

The presiding judge, Justice Kala, has adjourned to July 1, 2926, for his trial, as well hearing of any pending applications on the charge.

The judge however ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) pending when his bail application would be heard and determined.
